Our Heritage

In Tipperary we are fortunate to be surrounded by a rich and varied heritage.

The 1995 Heritage Act defines Heritage as;
Monuments, archaeological objects, heritage objects, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, wildlife habitats, landscapes, seascapes, wrecks, geology, heritage gardens and parks, inland waterways

This is our tangible heritage, it surrounds us and is a visual backdrop to life here in County Tipperary.
That is not all of course, there is also a wealth of intangible heritage our customs, traditions, games, songs and folklore

The role of the Heritage office is to
‘To promote awareness and appreciation of our rich heritage and to protect and enhance it for future generations.’

National Heritage Week focuses on our Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and takes place in August each year.
