Climate Change presents one of the greatest global threats to our generation and future generations. Ireland and Tipperary imports approximately 85-88% of its energy (mainly from fossil fuels). Tipperary County Council is committed to meeting this challenge by providing local solutions to global problems. This is achieved through:
County Development Plan and it’s supporting strategies & actions plans
- Climate Change strategy
- Renewable Energy strategy
- Wind Energy Guidelines
- Planning Guidelines
- Support of communities and businesses through the Tipperary Energy Agency
- Maximizing the retrofitting of Social Housing and acting as a catalyst for increased retrofit of private houses.
As a result of the above actions Tipperary County Council is significantly reducing its energy use and increasing its share of renewable energy. While a great deal has been achieved there is large amount to go to achieve our national target for renewable energy and carbon reduces.
Tipperary Couty Council aims to increase renewable electricity five-fold and renewable transport by twelve-fold in order to contribute to the national effort appropriately.
