Birdhill wins the title of Ireland's tidiest town for 2017

Tipperary County Council Cathaoirleach Dr Phyll Bugler congratulates Birdhill on winning the title of Ireland's tidiest town for 2017 and wishes all the Tipperary Tidy Towns entrants continued success.

"As Tipperary's First citizen, I would like to congratulate the community of Birdhill on securing the overall title of 'Ireland's Tidiest Town for 2017'. I would like to especially acknowledge the people who make it happen on the ground. This is a great achievement and worthy recognition for the selfless efforts of these volunteers and is testament to the huge pride the community has for their environment in making it a better place in which to live and work as well as enhancing it as a place for people to visit.

The dedication and personal sacrifice from all tidy towns’ volunteers across the county in maintaining and improving our towns and villages is truly inspiring and is visible for all to see. Equally important in these communities is the successful collaboration, engagement, community spirit and shared sense of pride among the residents.

I would also like to congratulate the county's other Gold, Silver and Bronze award winners for their stellar performances with increased marks across the board. The Council salutes the sustained efforts of the voluntary committees of Birdhill, Emly, Terryglass, Clonmel, Kilsheelan, Silvermines, Roscrea, Nenagh, Cahir, Cashel and Ballina in maintaining their towns and villages to such a high standard, taking pride in their heritage and appreciating and protecting their environment.

Tipperary County Council indeed recognises and acknowledges the significant input of these committees and supports their endeavours through grant assistance, facilitated workshops and organising awareness campaigns and local award nights. The positive contribution made by Council staff in supporting and helping to develop community led projects in these towns and villages must also be acknowledged.

Tipperary County Council is committed to playing its part to help local volunteers to improve their communities and by working closely together, we all benefit because we are creating towns and villages that are good places to live in.

Again, heartiest congratulations to Birdhill and all those that participated in Tidy Towns 2017. We are so proud of your achievements."
