The Arts & Library Services of Tipperary County Council announced earlier in the month, a four week programme of online Zoom Sessions during May and June as part of the 2020 Tipperary Bealtaine Programme in collaboration with artists and long time Tipperary Bealtaine Collaborators Aileen Lambert and Michael Fortune
While this is a Tipperary based project with key performers from across the county, we invited singers and listeners from all over Ireland and indeed the globe who would like to take part. As the title suggests with the advent of new technology “Its not a long way to Tipperary” and you can participate in events from the comfort of your own home anywhere in Tipperary or beyond.
Four gorgeous events for you, all free and the first one came in the form of a multi-generational traditional singing session which took place on Saturday 23rd May, 2020.
This family focused traditional singing session invited young singers along with their families to come to this online event and simply sing and listen.
This was an ideal space for grandparents to sing for their grandchildren or vice versa. We were lucky to be joined by Tipperary singer Deirdre Scanlan, a primary school teacher and a leading figure in the teaching of traditional song and music in Co. Tipperary. Lead artist Aileen and her daughters Nellie, Eppie and Nan will also share some child friendly songs on the day.
The maximum number of people able to attend each event was 25 and we achieved full capacity, so thank you very much for your support.
The second event in the “It’s not a long way to Tipperary” series was an evening of poetry, spoken word and song on Thursday 23rd May, 2020. A special event featuring renowned poets and singers Eleanor Hooker, Nóirin Lynch and Catherine Ann Cullen. The theme of the 90 minute event was ‘The Water’ and again this event achieved full capacity.
The remaining 2 events are:
