What is an Age Friendly County?

A partnership of Tipperary County Council , An Garda Siochana, HSE North and South Tipperary and County Tipperary Citizens Information Service and have produced the Tipperary Age Friendly Information Guide to Services for Older People in County Tipperary.
This is the first all County publication for Older People within Tipperary .

Cultural Companion

Tipperary Cultural Companions
Cultural Companions is an Age and Opportunity Initiative designed to link older people interested in arts and culture through a network so that they can attend events together as a group.
Events include Concerts, Films, Theatre, Plays, Musicals, Historical Talks and Exhibitions.

Tipperary Older Peoples Council

In June 2019 Tipperary County Council will commence the formation of the Tipperary Older Peoples Council hosting public meetings across the county. The public meetings will be held across the 5 Municipal Districts.
Roscrea has been very proactive in developing Age Friendly and we will work with the partners there in progressing Roscrea as Tipperary’s first Age Friendly Town.

Community Smoke Alarm Scheme

TIPPERARY FIRE & RESCUE SERVICE are aiming to increase the number of Smoke Alarms in homes across County Tipperary to a minimum of 2 Working Smoke Alarms in every home. We hope to do this by a combination of actions including Publicity Campaigns using Social Media, School Education Visits, School Visits to Fire Stations, Advertising in Local Media.

A new national free phone bereavement support line has been launched by the Irish Hospice Foundation in conjunction with the HSE.

Seniors Alert Scheme

The Seniors Alert Scheme (SAS) has been established to encourage community support for vulnerable older people in our communities. It provides funding for a personal monitored alarm, connected to a contact centre to enable older persons of 65 or older and of limited means, to continue to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

Reminiscing in Tipperary

Tipperary Age Friendly Older Peoples Council are developing a project to capture stories and tales of the past, listening to the voices of older people across County Tipperary.
Within this project we hope to capture some living history from residents in the county and we will collate this information in written, audio and video form.

Volunteer tech helpline for older people cocooning in Ireland

What does Generation Tech do?
Generation Tech was initially set up during the first lockdown to support people aged 65+ to keep in contact with loved ones whilst cocooning. There are over 750.000 people aged 65+ in Ireland and Generation Tech wants to support these people to access technology and develop new skills regardless of age.

Tipperary Digital Connections

Tipperary Age Friendly are working with Family Resource Centres and Community Groups in Tipperary to address digital poverty and support older adults in becoming confident and competent in the use of technology.

LGBT+ in Tipperary

LGBT+ in Tipperary
The Department of Rural & Community Development published the Dormant Accounts Action Plan 2020 providing funding to address disadvantage across the country. This included support for LGBT Community organisations and following an application funding was secured for LGBT+ organisations in Tipperary.
