Play and Recreation

Play is a fundamental part of every child’s nature and children will play wherever they are.

Playgrounds provide a free place for children, their families and minders to explore play and enjoy the outdoors. There are over forty playgrounds available in County Tipperary for residents and visitors catering for different age ranges from pre-school through to teenagers. Many offer inclusive play equipment for children with a range of special needs.

Playgrounds are supported by Tipperary County Council, Local Community Groups, local fundraising and Local Development Companies. Some Playgrounds are operated and maintained by Tipperary County Council and the majority by local community groups. Tipperary County Council acknowledges and thanks the many parents and volunteers that work tirelessly to develop and maintain their local playground. We ask that you support their efforts by respecting the rules of each playground and help keep them safe and litter free.

Tipperary County Council supports a ‘Smoke Free Policy’ in Council operated Playgrounds and it hopes that many community operated playgrounds will also adopt this policy.
Tipperary County Council is a member of the Local Authority National Play and Recreation Network in partnership with the Department of Youth and Children.
