Tipperary 2016

Ireland 2016

The Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme marks the centenary of 1916 with a year long programme of events. The programme is underpinned by five intersecting and overlapping themes: Remembering, Reconciling, Presenting, Imagining and Celebrating.

The Descendants Project

The “Descendants Project” is a multimedia art project commissioned by Tipperary County Council for the Centenary of the Easter Rising. The project’s goal is to gather a collection of stories and collective memory through portraits and interviews with relatives of those who mobilized in the Tipperary area, or those who were involved in the Rising and have connections with Tipperary.

Thomas MacDonagh

One of the seven signatories of the Proclamation in 1916, he was born in Cloughjordan in 1878, son of teachers Joseph MacDonagh and Mary Louise Parker. He had two sisters and three brothers. He went to Rockwell College, Cashel, Co Tipperary in 1894 initially to train as a priest but found he did not have a vocation and became a teacher.
