Energy Reduction Measures

Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) has undertaken a programme of turning off surplus lighting at Motorway Junctions which commenced at the end of September 2018.

The objective is to reduce energy use in accordance with the EU Energy Efficiency Directive (2012/27/EU).

Junction 8 (Fethard) off the M8 at Cashel Co Tipperary is included in the TII’s programme.

Specification and Design of Heating Systems with heat pumps to be held in Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on Friday, 18th October, 2019

The 1-day seminar aims to enhance the knowledge base of the engineering and architectural sector in Ireland with respect to heat pumps in homes and commercial buildings. Engineers and architects in Ireland have to change their method and type of specifications and designs for heating systems from a predominately high carbon heating systems to low carbon heating systems.

The Environmental Protection Agency is running a communications campaign, on radio and social media, to inform everyone that reducing waste is one of the most important day-to-day actions we can take to help tackle climate change. As part of the campaign, we are encouraging everyone to join us in our Stop Food Waste pledge to go a week without wasting food.

20 students from Tankerstown National School had a very enjoyable tour of Donohill Recycling Centre on 25th November, 2019.

Wonderful news with the announcement that Tipperary County Council’s application for funding for ’Nenagh Historic & Cultural Quarter - A Tourism-led Regeneration Plan’ has been successful under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund.     Thurles Municipal District is delighted to announce that a Schedule of Municipal District Works with a total works value of €10.4 million has been approved by the Elected Members of Thurles Municipal District at the March 2021 meeting of Thurles MD.

    Tipperary County Council is pleased to announce that the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage has approved an additional allocation of €1 million for the Liberty Square Enhancement Works Project.

    Environment and Climate Action recently launched an anti dog fouling awareness campaign in which 200 hi vis are been made available to the public which hope to raise awareness with the public while out walking their dog to pick up after them. The message on the hi vis is "My dog supports a clean environment, Keep Tipp Tidy".

    Increase in Parking Charges

    The Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, has signed regulations doubling from €40 to €80 the fixed charge penalty for motorists caught parking on footpaths, cycle tracks and bus lanes. The new €80 penalties will come into operation nationally on 1 February 2022.

    Minister Ryan said:

    €6.6 million to be spent on cycling and walking projects in Tipperary this year.

    The Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan T.D., has confirmed that the National Transport Authority (NTA) has allocated funds to Ireland’s local authorities with a view to spending €289 million on walking and cycling infrastructure in 2022, €6.6 million of which is to be spent in County Tipperary.
