Activities for Education and Outreach

The Education & Outreach Department of South Tipperary County Museum aims to enhance the visitor experience by providing opportunities for enjoyment and learning at a level accessible to all visitors. All visitors should feel engaged with local history.

Art & Craft

One Saturday a month the Museum holds a 1 hour art and craft based workshop for children aged 6 – 12 years. These workshops are based on the seasons and calendar customs e.g. St Brigid’s Day Crosses, Easter, Harvest, Halloween, Mother’s Day & Father’s Day, Christmas etc. These workshops can also be aranged for groups on request.

Guided Tours

Guided tours of the galleries are available on request with activity sheets for primary and secondary level students. Tours can be arranged for schools, community groups, clubs and societies, also by request for both adult and youth groups.

History and Archaeology

Aimed at Senior primary and second level students our history and archaeology workshops are designed to bring the history curriculum alive. Topics covered include Rock Art, Cave art, Ogham and Viking writing, neolithic and medieval pottery, sheet bronze working, dig in a box, guided site visits to local monuments, and hands on sessions with replica costumes, tools and weapons.
