BEALTAINE - Among the highlights are Rituals and Other Stories, at Tipperary County Museum, in Clonmel which on Saturday 6th May 2017 explores festivals such as Bealtaine itself as well as the relatively recent Mother and Child Scheme. At Fethard Day Care Centre and the County Museum, TipperaryBealtaine 2017 has commissioned artist Pat Loobyto consider, with both of these Museum talks in mind, the rituals and stories associated with images of the Madonna and Child and the tradition of the May Altar.
Pat is bringing together students from her class at Patrician Presentation Secondary school and the Day Care Centre group to explore and consider statuary and images associated with May altars. A selection of Pat’s own work and that of her Day Care collaborators will be shown at The Tipperary County Museum in Clonmel in late May.
In Looking at Laceat the Quay Arts Gallery, Killaloe, Limerick School of Art and Design lecturer, GiordanaGiacheonSunday May 7th will give a day long talk and workshop, on the history of lacemaking and in particular of the importance of Limerick lace which is strongly connected to East Clare and Tipperary.
Also she will explore recent lace making and its place in recent art and design, giving a workshop on stitches and creating them on a large scale to show lace in a contemporary setting.Also on the menu is an opportunity to explore self -portrait project with artists TherryRudin and Patricia Hurl at Damer House, Roscrea and Seconds of our time at the Day Care Centre, Irishtown, Clonmel sees artist Brigid Teehan make film using Stop Motion Animation.
For the film buffs, we remember the King on the 40th anniversary of his death and the 60th anniversary of the release of Jailhouse Rock.
Also on show is the charming Dare to be Wild as well as award winning documentary Meetings With Ivor, the story of Ivor Browne who has been a central figure in Irish Mental Health for decades.
