Carrick on Suir MD- Schedule of Municipal District Works 2022

At their monthly meeting held on the 28 March 2022, the Elected Members of Carrick on Suir Municipal District adopted a comprehensive schedule of Municipal District Works with a total works value of €14.175 million.
This schedule provides for housing maintenance, roads improvement and maintenance, footpath improvements, safety schemes, bridge rehabilitation, schemes such as the Local Improvement Scheme and Community Involvement Scheme, street cleaning, burial ground maintenance, maintenance of playgrounds, open spaces and drainage works in the Carrick on Suir Municipal District.

It includes: -

  • A sum of €1.021 million provided for Active Travel Projects.
  • A capital allocation of €3million for the N24 Pavement Strengthening Scheme at Carrick on Suir which received planning consent in July 2020.
  • A capital allocation of €1.01million for the N76 Grangemockler contract.
  • A grant of €200,000 from the Outdoor Recreational Infrastructure Scheme from the Department of Rural & Community Development will allow the widening of a further 950metres of the River Suir Blueway upstream of Carrick on Suir in 2022 (Corman Miloko to Arrigan’s Boreen).
  • Funding of €487,000 is included for the Carrick on Suir Regeneration Plan to bring it to design stage so to seek Category 1 funding under the Rural Regeneration Development Fund [RRDF] to deliver an ambitious project costing in the region of €16.5million.
  • A capital grant of €100,000 to fund the engagement of consultants to carry out a feasibility study on a proposal to connect the Suir Blueway to the Waterford Greenway.

Furthermore, the Elected Members of Carrick on Suir Municipal District agreed to allocate funding of €116,197 under the General Municipal Allocation to support applications for Town and Village Renewal enhancement works, Outdoor Recreation and Infrastructure Scheme works, lighting, festivals and events grants, and Tidy Towns and Resident Association supports. The unanimous approval of the Schedule of Works has been warmly received by Councillors and Council personnel alike, representing a welcome significant investment in the ongoing servicing of Carrick on Suir District.

In welcoming the approval, Cathaoirleach of Carrick on Suir Municipal District, Councillor Mark Fitzgerald thanked his colleagues and officials for their co-operation and input in agreeing a well-balanced and comprehensive schedule of works at a significant cost in excess of €14million; he commended all involved in ensuring that resources were fairly distributed across the District.

Marie O’Gorman, District Administrator, Carrick on Suir Municipal District joined in welcoming the approval of the Schedule of Municipal District Works for 2022. She paid tribute to the District Engineer and his team in seeking to respond inasmuch as possible to representations from the Elected Members over the previous year while progressing improvements in the standard of those rural ‘red’ roads deemed to be in poor condition. She expressed her appreciation of the partnership approach adopted by the Members of Carrick on Suir Municipal District and for their commitment and enthusiasm to improving the level of service delivery across all of the functional roles in the District.
