People born outside of Ireland now living in Tipperary are invited to take part in consultations to see what the main challenges facing their communities are.
Tipperary Volunteer Centre in partnership with Tipperary County Council are launching the ‘Diverse Tipperary’ initiative. They will be holding focus groups in November across the five municipal districts to gather information on the challenges facing minority groups.
Those currently resident in Tipperary but born outside of Ireland are asked to participate in their nearest focus group to discuss their own experience of integration and community life in Tipperary.
Derek Fanning, manager of Tipperary Volunteering Centre said: ‘Tipperary certainly has a richness of diversity and culture. The 2016 Census highlighted that there are over 20,000 people living across county Tipperary who were born outside of Ireland. This diverse group accounts for 13% of the county’s total population.
The focus groups will be a good opportunity to express honest views on what living in Tipperary as a person born outside of Ireland is really like. Whether you are an individual or representative of a group your opinions matter. The only boundary condition for attendance is that you currently live in County Tipperary but were not born in Ireland’ said Derek.
The next step of the Diverse Tipperary initiative after the focus groups is to enlist the support of the target groups to help organise events to showcase their unique cultures locally in Tipperary. A small budget may be available to groups to assist with the costs of organising the events.
The focus groups will be held in
Clonmel on Monday November 12th at 7.00PM (Ballingarrane House)
Tipperary Town on November 14th at 3.00PM (Civic Offices, Tipperary)
Thurles on November 19th at 3.00PM (Civic Offices, Thurles Town)
Carrick on Suir on November 21st at 7.00PM (Nano Nagle Resource Centre, Greenside)
Nenagh on November 26th at 7.00PM (NTLP offices, Friars Court)
