Building Facade Painting & Enhancement Schemes 2020 for Tipperary, Cahir & Cashel
In 2020 a Painting & Enhancement Scheme was rolled out in Tipperary, Cahir and Cashel. This saw 79 properties across the district that improved their premises by installing new signage, fresh paint, hanging baskets & window boxes which helped enhance the streetscape of our towns. Further premises will benefit under the 2021 scheme. And a big thank you to all the property owners who participated in the scheme. In addition to improving the attractiveness of the individual properties this scheme also provided employment to painters & decorators across Tipperary-Cahir-Cashel Municipal District and there was a spin-off in terms of business for local hardware shops. It also provided encouragement & support to business owners at a time when they were facing challenges.
Community Projects & Initiatives
Canon Hayes Recreation Centre, Tipperary Town
Tipperary County Council assisted the Canon Hayes Recreation Centre to undertake a strategic and financial review of its facility and worked with the board of CHRC and other stakeholders to review operations and structures and prepare a strategic plan to enable the facility to operate in a sustainable manner in the long-term. The Council is assisting the board to implement the report’s recommendations and also providing financial support (from the local property tax) to assist with various measures and actions.
This initiative will increase opportunities for people of the area to be physically active.
Tipperary Town Revitalisation Task Force is also receiving funding through the LPT to develop agreed plans and new project proposals for the town.
The Task Force are currently drafting their 5-Year Action Plan; the draft will be made available to the public for consultation in July before the document is finalised.
Social Inclusion, Tourism and Biodiversity Plans for the town are all at an advanced draft stage.
The LPT has also provided seed funding to develop plans and designs for large scale projects in the district, helping to leverage and access funding from the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund (RRDF), Town & Village Renewal Scheme and other national funding programmes.
Cahir Market House Business Centre (which includes the current Cahir Library building and the former Council offices) is an example of a project that used seed funding from the LPT to prepare preliminary plans and designs to enable an application for funding to be submitted to the Rural Regeneration & Development Fund (RRDF) which resulted in funding of €633,000 being allocated for regeneration projects in Cahir town centre.
