Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme Contract Signing
The contract from the new the new Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) for the 2018-2011 period was officially signed today December 11th at Civic Offices, Clonmel by the Chief Executive Officers of the Implementing Partners, South Tipperary Development Company and North Tipperary LEADER Partnership, Ms Isabel Cambie and Michael Murray respectively, the Chairperson of the Tipperary Local Community Development Committee (LCDC), Mr. Charles Stanley Smith and the Chief Executive of Tipperary’ County Council, Mr. Joe MacGrath.
The Social Inclusion and Community Activation Programme (SICAP) provides funding to tackle poverty and social inclusion at a local level through local engagement and partnerships between disadvantaged individuals, community organization and public sector agencies. SICAP is funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development with co-financing from the European Social fund and is managed locally by Tipperary LCDC with support from Tipperary County Council. The programme is implemented in the north of the county by North Tipperary LEADER Partnership (NTLP) and in South Tipperary by South Tipperary Development Company (NTLP). NTLP and STDC engage with the marginalized communities and a wide range of services provider using a integrated and community development approach to address issues relating to social exclusion and equality.
The programme has been implemented by the Development companies STDC & NTLP in Tipperary since 2015 and they are currently in the final stages of implementing their first contact. The new contract was publicly procured and the development companies were the successful tenderers. The combined budget for the SICAP programme for Co Tipperary will be in excess of €1,173,000 per year across the lifetime of the programme. The Development Companies will engage with 75 Local Community groups across the county and over 1000 individual beneficiaries. The companies will also support these individuals to improve the quality of their life through the provision of lifelong learning and labour market supports. Local Community groups and target group will be supported to engage with relevant stakeholders in identifying and addressing social exclusion and equality issues and creating more sustainable communities.
The chairperson of the Local Community Development Committee, Charles Stanley Smith congratulated both South Tipperary Development Company and North Tipperary LEADER partnership on their new contract saying that he looked forward to a productive working relationship between the LCDC and the SICAP implementing partners over the life of the programme.
