At the Supervalu Tidy Towns South East regional awards held on the 7th November in Kilkenny, Tipperary received awards in all categories and won a total of nine medals in addition to other awards. In the small villages section with a population under 200 – both Terryglass and Birdhill were the recipients of a gold medal. The village of Emly was awarded a gold medal and Silvermines received a silver medal for villages with populations between 200 and 1000. Kilsheelan received a gold medal in the small towns section. In the large town section, Cahir, Roscrea and Nenagh received bronze medals and the final gold medal went to Clonmel in the large urban district category. Clonmel was also the overall national winner of the “Lets get buzzing” Local Authority Pollinator Award, which is aimed at conserving and enhancing wildlife in towns and villages. Silvermines Enhancement Group received a Water Communities award. In the County Endeavour Section, awards were made to the villages of Ballysloe and Killusty.
Tipperary had 77 entries, which was the seconded highest number and accounted for 9% of the overall entry of 883.
