Thurles Town Centre Forum was established in May 2017 to support the commercial and touristic development of Thurles. The Forum is made up of representatives from various sectors including a representative (District Administrator) of the Thurles Municipal District of Tipperary County Council.

The setting up of the Forum was facilitated by Kathleen Prendergast in the Community and Economic Development Section
.
Following the publication of the Town Centre Initiative Report in 2016, one of the themes identified in the 3 year action plan for Thurles Town Centre related to town branding and this was identified as a priority and key to raising the profile of the town.

Following a consultative process, the branding of Thurles was developed with a logo identifying:
(i) An Arts and Cultural Centre,
(ii) A Business Strongfort;
(iii) A Sporting Destination; and
(iv) A Centre of Education, and also incorporating environmental awareness and sustainability, diversity and social inclusion (see logo hereunder, each leaf representing one of the areas identified).

The T in Thurles is joined to the L representing Barry’s Castle and the River Suir Bridge.

This branding was carried through to the development of a signage plan for the approach roads into Thurles town.
See example of signage hereunder and also the development of a website http://www.thurles.ie
