Thurles MD welcomed Minister Heather Humphries

Thurles Municipal District Elected Representations and officials were delighted to welcome Minister Heather Humphries, Minister for Rural and Community Development, to Thurles District on the 3rd November 2021.

Minister Humphries visited the Thurles Market Quarter Project in Thurles, which is a Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) project and is funded by the Ministers’ Department, for an update on the progress of the project.

The Minister had recently announced an additional allocation of €549,269 for the project.

Tipperary County Council had already been awarded an allocation of €2,893,861 million for this project by the Department of Rural and Community Development, with a substantial match funding element also provided by the Council.

Minister Humphries then went on to Templemore town to visit the newly opened Templemore Town Park Woodland Walk. The Minister later visited Templemore Town Hall to receive an update on the progress of that project.
Both projects are again funded by the Ministers’ Department, the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The Templemore Town Park Woodland Walk project was approved in 2020 and has become a great amenity to Templemore Town and it’s environs.
This project was awarded a grant of €53,000 and has enhanced what is already a wonderful recreational amenity containing numerous meandering trails/paths around the picturesque woodlands and lake.

At the Templemore Town Hall site, Minister Humphries spoke of her delight at being able to fund such a project, to restore such an important landmark and bring it back into use.

Cllr Seamus Hanafin, Cathaoirleach Thurles Municipal District stated:
I welcome Minister Humphries to Thurles District, where I am glad to have had the opportunity to thank her and her Department for the approval of additional funding for the Thurles Market Quarter Project.
This additional funding further demonstrates the commitment of Thurles Municipal District and the Department of Rural and Community Development to support the development of towns and villages across the County.
