Cathaoirleach Tipperary County Council

Cllr Fiona Bonfield has been elected Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, describing the appointment as "the privilege of a lifetime" and pledging to serve communities across the county with fairness, inclusivity and determination.
In her inaugural address, Cllr Bonfield thanked her fellow councillors for their support and acknowledged the contribution of outgoing Cathaoirleach Cllr John Carroll. She also reflected on the significance of becoming a Labour Party woman Cathaoirleach of the united Tipperary County Council and reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring all communities are represented and heard.
Setting out her priorities for the year ahead, Cllr Bonfield identified three key areas of focus: increasing the delivery of affordable housing, tackling vacancy and dereliction in towns and villages, and supporting stronger, more connected communities. She emphasised the importance of sustainable development, investment in local infrastructure and services, and collaboration between elected members, council staff, community organisations and businesses.
Highlighting Tipperary's many strengths, including its natural beauty, rich heritage, vibrant communities and strong economy, Cllr Bonfield expressed optimism for the county's future and called for a united approach to delivering positive outcomes for people across Tipperary.
Concluding her remarks, she thanked her family, supporters and community for their encouragement throughout her public service career and committed to working tirelessly to help build a stronger, more vibrant and inclusive Tipperary for all.
