Roscrea Town Centre First Masterplan

Roscrea Landmarks

Roscrea is one of 26 towns across the country that has received funding to develop a Town Centre First Masterplan which aims to map out future development, focus on tackling dereliction and vacant properties, and make the town centre a more attractive place to live, work, socialise and run a business. This initiative aims to help re-imagine and revitalise rural communities as part of the National Town Centre First Policy.

The process is currently underway and is supported by Tipperary County Council and the Roscrea Town Team which was formed in January 2023.  The Town Champion and the Council’s Town Regeneration Officer will work closely with the Town Team over the next six months to deliver a new Town Centre First Plan for Roscrea. This will involve collaborating with the public and private sector, public participation, engagement, and capacity building.

All information relating to the plan and updates for the public of Roscrea on the process will be added to this page regularly.

Participation, Engagement and Capacity Building

In order for the public of Roscrea to have an input into the Masterplan alongside the Town Team, a series of various engagements took place during the month of March. These included online surveys for businesses and communities, focus groups with schools, strategy training for the Town Team, workshops for the public and County Councillors.

Thanks for having you say at our workshops and online. All of the findings from the workshops and the surveys are being collated and will feed into the Roscrea Town Centre First Plan.

There will be another public meeting when a Draft Roscrea Masterplan has been completed and this will be arranged in May @The Black Mills  (date TBC) and open to all members of the public.

National Town Centre First Policy

Our Rural Future, the Government’s Rural Development Policy outlines a vision to support the regeneration and development of rural towns and villages to contribute to local and national economic recovery, and to enable people to live and work in a vibrant environment. The Town Centre First policy launched in February 2022 is central to this vision.

Town Centre First represents a new approach to the development of our towns where local communities and local businesses can be central to reimagining their own towns and planning their own futures. Every town is different. Each town is unique and requires unique solutions to the challenges and opportunities they face.
